What camera are you going to use it with?

It would work when you zoom in for portrait–but the aperture isn't that wide–if you want to blur the background, like this (and believe it or not, the setting here is f 5.6)

Why not 50 mm f 1.4 or 85 mm f 1.8 if you have a cropped sensor. If you have a full framer, why not 100 mm to 135 mm lens.
